For example, if you’re running a high-quality steel that is properly sized for your line but experiencing problems like center buckle or oil canning, the problem may stem from upstream process issues such as slitting the material to make it narrower. In those cases, the correct solution is to reduce the slit width or work with a different material supplier.

Another common cause of symptoms is poor machine maintenance. Incorrect setup of the machine, improper lubrication of the rollers and shear dies, and misalignment of the upper and lower shafts are all examples of common problems that can occur. To minimize these problems, it’s important that your setup sheets are clearly labeled and that the machine face alignment spacers (the ones closest to the stand) are clean and positioned correctly. It’s also essential that you reposition the shear dies when you switch to a new profile to maintain a consistent cut length.
