The Cable Bridge Making Machine

A cable bridge making machine can be used to construct a span across a river. This wire is then passed through a spinning wheel on a pilot line, and the wire is carried across the path of the bridge. Roebling's machine used wire that was 16ths of an inch in diameter and a total of six thousand wires to make each cable. Today, he uses this method to construct bridges.

The concept of a flexible deck was used in suspension bridges all over the world. In 1808, James Finley patented a system for suspending a rigid deck. It was soon followed by the construction of the Brooklyn Bridge, the London Eye, and the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
