Metal Corrugating Machine - Corrugation Die Combinations

A metal corrugating machine is a tool that facilitates the process of stamping metal sheets. It is generally a rotating action that shapes metal into various shapes and sizes, while simultaneously reducing the cost of fabrication. The process of metal corrugation is very similar to that of corning, but the process is more efficient in nature. In a metal corrugating machine, the combination of a plurality of die cuttings substantially long in cross-section, die elongated cooperatively operated dies having holes corresponding to the cross-sectional shape of said die's first mentioned hollow die, semi-cylindrical flat sheet of sheet metal shaped irregularly in shape having edges slightly rounded. These edges along with the flat sheet's corners form the inner dies of the metal corrugating machine.

Metal corrugations are usually carried out on flat sheets of sheet metal. The term 'corrugation' derives from the Latin word 'coral', which means fringed. Hence, the metal corrugating machine creates curved shapes, which are often used for decorative purposes in decorations, jewelry, furniture, flooring, building structures and even aircraft. Corrugations of sheet metals that are used as roof shingles and roof boxes are especially created using corrugated die cutting machines.

The metal corrugating machine creates the curved shapes on the first mentioned die bars as they are being manually moved across the metal surface. These shapes are usually triangular in nature. On the other hand, when one tries to design a corrugated box or a corrugated board, it is a combination of first mentioned die bars and second mentioned corrugated bars that are manually moved into position. When these two types of dies are used together the triangular shape produced is a cornered shape in which the top surface is gradually sloped down towards the bottom. Corrugated boxes are also manually moved into position, but the cornered shape produced is not triangular.

Metal corrugating machines are used for different purposes. Firstly, a number of designs can be developed, but for this the design has to be drawn on the computer aided drawing (CAD) software and then these designs are manually transferred into metal sheets and then these sheets are manually welded into shape. Secondly, the design is automatically scanned on the sheet metal and a number of corrugated boxes are then manually moved into position, over the welding areas. Thirdly, the design is printed on the corrugated boxes and these boxes are then welded in place. Fourthly, the design is printed on the corrugated boxes and these boxes are welded in place.

Another way in which these machines are used is for the manufacture of corrugated plastic sheets. For this you would require a smaller number of dies than that required for the manufacture of corrugated sheet metal. These dies are made to rotate in two axes, namely the x and y axis. The main working area is the two sided die with the flat face at the top, while the flat side is known as the Y-axis dies. On the other hand, the traditional metal corrugation dies have an array of cross sections. The X-axis dies have cross sections that are parallel to the surface, whereas the Y axis dies have cross sections that are perpendicular to the surface.

In the case of the corrugations that are formed on thin sheets of metal, the corrugations will be substantially cylindrical. It is not difficult to find the cylindrical die that will be suitable for these needs. When the metal is in its normal state, the material will already have a tendency to yield to this formation. You can therefore use a cylindrical die for these requirements if you wish.
