How a Galvanized Sheet Roll Forming Machine Works
A galvanized sheet roll forming machine is used to transform flat metal strips into contoured cross-sectional profiles.galvanized sheet roll forming machine The process is one of the fastest for producing constant-profile parts and can be applied to a wide variety of metals including carbon, stainless, aluminum, and copper alloys. It is also able to shape metals that have already been painted, plated, or coated.
The main components of a roll forming machine are the bending rollers, the power drive rolls, and the shear. The bending rollers are precision-contoured dies that progressively bend the incoming strip of metal into a desired profile. The power drive rolls are motorized, allowing them to be controlled in coordination with the bending rollers. A shear is used to cut the shaped metal strip to the ordered product length and can be located before or after the last bending station.
Before a strip of metal enters the roll forming mill, it is typically fed through a pre-press to prepare it for bending. This may include trimming the lead end and tapering it to prevent the material from sticking to the rollers. Applications such as holes, notches, and grooves can also be added during the pre-press stage. This is done to reduce the number of bending operations and to avoid adding unnecessary stresses to the metal.
After the incoming metal is fed into the forming line, it passes through an entry guide to align it with the bending rollers. A PLC (programmable logic controller) monitors the machine and enters commands to control its functions. The PLC is similar to a CNC (computer numerical control) machine and helps ensure consistent and high-quality production.
The next set of bending rollers in the machine are called heads, and each head performs an incremental part of the desired profile. A bending sequence is usually called a flower pattern, and each color represents a particular profile. The heads are spaced at an interval that corresponds to the required profile and can be arranged in two or more rows. The heads may be symmetrical or non-symmetrical.
Once the desired profile is achieved, the strip is sheared to the final length. This can be done before or after the forming line, depending on the size and complexity of the profile being produced. The resulting metal can be welded, tapped, and machined to provide the final product.
Roll forming is widely used across a number of different industries for a variety of reasons. It is the ideal choice for a wide variety of metal-based products due to its speed, flexibility, and cost effectiveness. Examples of these products include desk drawer slides, steel support framing, metal tubing, building construction, and aircraft manufacturing.
