Prepainted GALVALUME sheet is available in a wide variety of panel profiles and grades. The underlying steel has been chemically treated to resist rusting under a variety of accelerated tests and atmospheric exposures, while the aluminum-zinc alloy coating provides additional corrosion resistance. The GALVALUME product is also characterized by a smooth, low-spangle appearance that reflects light and reduces the need for paint.

These insulated metal roof panels are made with corrugated or non-corrugated steel sheets that can be manufactured to any length, width and grade for commercial and residential roofing applications. They are welded or ribbed in various ways for strength and flexibility and can be painted with a wide variety of colors.

They are primarily used in new construction, but they can be retrofitted to existing roofs by adding the necessary insulation and weatherproofing underlayment. They can be attached directly to the joist or purlin roof substructure or they can be secured to a metal or wood deck using concealed clips. The SSR panels should be positioned to drain water away from the structure and around the roof penetrations.

When stored at a job site, the sheets should be stored on skids under a waterproof covering to avoid damaging the sheets from corrosion. A space should be left between the cover and the sheets to allow for ventilation.

SSR panels should be handled with clean gloves to avoid hand marking and foot traffic should be avoided to prevent shoe scuffing and marking on the panels. Some SSR panels can be susceptible to “oil canning”, a waviness or discoloration of the flat area of the panel that is caused by metal coil processing and panel fabrication and installation.
