Rack Column Roll Forming Machine

A rack column roll forming machine is a specific type of machine that can be used to manufacture the uprights and other structural components of a storage rack system. The machine uses a combination of bending, stretching, and forming actions to transform flat metal strips into the desired shape and dimensions of the rack component it is being used for. The process is typically carried out in a series of stages, with the completed product being cut to length and then welding together to complete the manufacturing process.

The basic structure of a storage rack is formed from vertical posts that are attached to horizontal beams, which in turn support the weight of the stored goods. To help ensure the safety and stability of the uprights, these posts are often reinforced with welded-on braces. This provides the added strength and rigidity needed to resist damage from forklifts and other equipment in high-traffic warehouse environments.

The racking systems that are manufactured using a rack column roll forming machine can be customized to fit the specific requirements of each project. This means that the machines can be used to produce a wide variety of different types of structures, including storage racks, warehouse shelves, and industrial buildings. The process is often conducted in a factory, where the machines are operated by trained workers who are capable of producing large quantities of finished products with great accuracy and efficiency.

Structural racking systems are much more complex and highly engineered than their roll formed counterparts, which is why they require longer lead times to deliver and install. The additional complexity and customization of a structural racking system also makes them more costly.

While roll formed racking systems are less expensive, they also have limited structural integrity. They rely on their shape for strength, making them more susceptible to damage from lift truck impacts. Structural racking systems, on the other hand, are designed to be more durable and versatile and can handle more than just heavy loads.

When it comes to designing a warehouse storage system, there are many factors that must be considered. The size of the facility, the amount of stock that needs to be stored, and the type of goods being stored will all have an impact on which type of racking is best for the situation.

For example, if the warehouse will be storing fragile goods that must be protected from damage, then a seismic-rated system may need to be implemented. This will require a more expensive and complicated installation process, and it is not recommended for facilities that only need to store lighter goods.

Both types of racking systems can be tailored to suit individual projects with the addition of accessories and reinforcements. For example, a bullnose or angle deflector can be welded to the front of the rack frame to act as a barrier that protects the upright columns from damage. Additionally, reinforced upright columns can be welded to each racking bay to increase their strength and support heavier loads.
